WHEN YOU’RE TIRED OF HOLDING IT ALL TOGETHER | TRUST IN GOD

“Consider how things are going for you.”
— Haggai 1:5

You’re doing everything you can. You’re hustling harder, planning smarter, praying longer. But deep down, you still feel like you’re running on empty. What if the peace you’re chasing isn’t found in doing more—but in learning to fully trust in God? Let’s take a breath, step off the treadmill, and rediscover the power of surrender.

New devotional titled “When You’re Tired of Holding It All Together” from Sermons by Pastor Jim Brown, encouraging readers to trust in God during times of overwhelm.

You’ve been doing all the things.

Balancing the budget. Managing the emotions. Holding your faith together with coffee, willpower, and a verse taped to your mirror.
But deep down, it still feels… hollow. Exhausting. Like a spiritual treadmill you can’t get off.

In Haggai 1:4–6, God tells His people to pause and consider why all their efforts seem to fall flat:

“You’ve planted much, but harvested little. You eat but are not full. You earn wages only to put them in bags with holes.”

Why?

Because they were focused on building their lives while neglecting Him.

Bible verse from Haggai 1:4–6 with a message about trusting in God over material comfort

Maybe you’ve done the same. Maybe you’ve been trying to manage your way into peace instead of surrendering to the One who gives it freely.

God isn’t asking you to try harder. He’s asking you to trust deeper.
To get back to worship.
To prioritize His presence, not just His provision.

When you trust in God, surrendering control doesn’t mean giving up—it means giving over.
Giving over your plans, your outcomes, and your timing to the God whose way is perfect.

And when you do?
He promises to take care of the rest.

REFLECT

Where in your life are you trying to hold things together without God’s help?
What would it look like to surrender that situation to Him today and fully trust in God?

PRAYER

Father, I admit I’ve been trying to do life in my own strength.
I’ve chased productivity, control, and even religious routines—but I’m still running on empty.
Today, I surrender. I trust You with my schedule, my worries, my heart.
Help me to rest in Your goodness and put You first—again. Amen.

Inspirational quote about feeling empty and returning to trust in God from Haggai 1:4–6
